Methodology
CarCost calculates costs month by month to apply time-limited perks, yearly price growth and multi-phase loans correctly.
Formulas
- TCO over N years = (car price − residual value after N years) + the monthly sum of energy, maintenance & tyres, insurance, fees & parking and loan interest.
- Cash cost per km = everything paid (excluding depreciation) ÷ km; true cost per km = TCO ÷ km.
- EVs: kWh/month = km × kWh/100 km ÷ (1 − charging loss); charger sessions covered by a perk are free up to the cycle’s session quota, the rest is billed at the public price.
Results come from the CarCost engine shared with the app (engine 1.1.0 · data 2026.10.7); every default assumption lists its source and update date below.

Free charging
How free charging is counted
CarCost never treats “free” as ₫0 forever: session quotas, cycles and expiry dates are applied to every year of the TCO.
